We finally have a full-blown trailer for the anime series Terminator Zero, which makes it very clear that this will be a very violent show.

Set to the tune of Smashing Pumpkins’ “Disarm,” we see the protagonist’s flesh ripped from his body in a nuclear fallout as he clutches his children (don’t worry, it was just a dream). We see Skynet seeking to kill him in the past, in an attempt to prevent him from building a program meant to thwart the artificial intelligence’s quest to destroy humanity. And we also see that things will most certainly get dire, with no guarantee that humanity will make it out the other side.

Good times!

Here is the synopsis for Terminator Zero:

Caught between the future and this past is a soldier sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who works to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity. As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he is hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future which forever alters the fate of his three children.

The series has a lot of talent behind it. It’s showrun by Mattson Tomlin (The Batman II) and stars André Holland as Malcolm Lee, Sonoya Mizuno as Eiko, the soldier sent back in time, and Rosario Dawson as the AI system that Lee creates.

Terminator Zero starts streaming on Netflix on Judgement Day. (August 29, 2024, in case you forgot.)
