You’ve heard of Young Frankenstein, obviously, but what if he were even younger? That’s what’s suggested in the name Very Young Frankenstein, a potential series in the works at FX. Deadline reports that the show is “nearing a pilot order.”
Original Young Frankenstein mastermind Mel Brooks is among the executive producers of this potential show; other involved parties include Brooks’ producing partner Kevin Salter; Stefani Robinson (the potential series’ potential writer and showrunner); Taika Waititi (who would direct the pilot); and Garrett Basch. Robinson, Waititi, and Basch were all involved with What We Do in the Shadows: Robinson as a writer and producer; Waititi as director, producer, and actor; and Basch as executive producer.
No details for Very Young Frankenstein have been announced. The original 1974 film Young Frankenstein starred Gene Wilder (pictured above) as the grandson of Victor Frankenstein, who wants nothing to do with his infamous relation—and then inherits his castle. Hijinks ensue, naturally.
This would be the second Mel Brooks film in recent years to be turned into a TV series; History of the World, Part 2 aired in 2023. And, of course, we’re getting a sequel to Spaceballs with most of the original cast on board.
