The first look at Max’s The Penguin, the series spinoff that takes place after the events of The Batman, wasn’t very revealing. Most of it was Colin Farrell as the title character holding forth about how he would like a parade (by which I mean he would like to be appreciated and maybe, kinda, sorta, do a good-ish thing every so often, I guess).
The new teaser, though, finally gives us a look at the wider world of the series from showrunner Lauren LeFranc. And it gives us a good look at Cristin Milioti, who coldly and magnetically stalks through this whole man’s-world of a trailer as Sofia Falcone. Her father, Carmine, is dead, and as Carmine’s former lieutenant the Penguin tells Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown), “I’m here now.”
Seems like he might have underestimated the boss’s daughter. “I refuse to let these old men push me aside again,” she says. “So I’m gonna take from them now.”
Okay, now I’m interested. It doesn’t hurt that the series also stars Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse) and Carmen Ejogo (I’m a Virgo) along with the small army of men playing assorted Falcones and Maronis. The Penguin still doesn’t have a specific release date, but the window has gotten slightly narrower, shifting from “fall” to “September.”
