There have been rumblings (and pleadings by fans) for years now about the idea of Nicolas Cage reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir, a part he voiced in the animated feature Into The Spider-Verse. Way back in February 2023, we got word that a live-action Spider-Man Noir series was in the works at Amazon MGM Studios, and just a couple of months ago, Cage (pictured above) had teased that he was in talks to play the part.

Today, Amazon MGM confirmed the hints: A Spider-Man Noir live-action series titled Noir is happening! And Cage will play the titular role!

“Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers,” Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement. “The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”

Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, added that no one else besides Cage could “bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character.”

Here’s the official logline of the series, which admittedly doesn’t give us much:

Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.

While details of the plot are thin, we do know that Fleabag alum Harry Bradbeer is set to direct the first two episodes and that Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) and Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) will be the showrunners.

No news yet on who will join Cage on the call sheet or when the series will premiere. Once it is released, however, Noir will debut domestically on the MGM+ channel and then will be available globally on Prime Video. icon-paragraph-end
