The first trailer for the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them takes us back to the wizarding world, or a 1920s American version, anyway. The trailer is pretty light on any actual magic, and the fantastic beasts themselves are only hinted at, but we do get a bit of roguish charm from Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander—he seems to have accidentally unleashed some magical creatures on an unsuspecting New York City, but we’re sure he’ll set things right…
We love that glimpse of the Magical Congress—the officials look a little less stuffy than their British Ministry counterparts, although maybe that’s mostly down to the fashion-forward art deco styling. In any case, we’re excited to delve more into this corner of J.K. Rowling’s universe! Fantastic Beasts hits theaters in November 2016.
Sparse, but what is shown looks very nicely done indeed. The variation over the original theme gave me goosebumps. The hopes are officially high.
I agree with 1 @M.H.Johnsen. I had low expectations (and I still want to reserve judgment), but the details look lovely, so I’m excited at least to see the art deco wizarding world is brought to life!
It’s a teaser, not a true trailer and, even with that, it was a little sparse, so to speak, but I am looking forward to it in many respects and really comfortable with the idea of Redmayne as the lead protagonist. It will be interesting to see, over the course of three films, how the movies replicate the British Cinema Who’s Who casting for North American wizardry.
Yeah, it doesn’t necessarily make me any more (or less) excited to see the movie, but I’m sure I’ll go see it when I get a chance! It’s a fun idea, at any rate!
