Netflix’s Shadow and Bone finally has a release date. The series adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s books arrives on April 23rd—and the streaming network is starting to dole out details and teasers, including our first real look at the world of the Grishaverse.
It’s a world of exceptional coats:

As was clear when they spoke for an NYCC panel last fall, Bardugo and showrunner Eric Heisserer have become masters at revealing very little. They gave Entertainment Weekly a bit more background on the characters, but remain very cagey about details. Bardugo notes that the image of Alina is from the moment right before her life changes, and that’s the vibe of everything they’ve shown so far: a lot of atmosphere, but nothing truly revealing. The biggest question remains how exactly the show will combine the stories from two of Bardugo’s series, the Grisha Trilogy and the Six of Crows duology.
Shadow and Bone was announced in 2019, and will have an eight-episode first season. The series stars Ben Barnes (General Kirigan/The Darkling), Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Amita Suman (Inej), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), and Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker)—all of whom you can see in the characters posters below.
