Peacemaker, the John Cena-starring spinoff of The Suicide Squad, may get its own spinoff. Variety reports that Viola Davis is in talks to return to the role of Amanda Waller in a series focused on the character. According to Variety, the series would “build off of” Waller’s appearance at the end of the first season of Peacemaker.
Davis played Amanda Waller in both The Suicide Squad and 2016’s Suicide Squad (above), as well as on Peacemaker. She’s the mastermind who established Task Force X, aka the Suicide Squad, and sends them off to do the dirty work that needs doing. Some of her secrets were revealed at the end of Peacemaker‘s first season, so she’s in a rather more difficult position than usual.
Peacemaker creator and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has been teasing a Peacemaker spinoff for months, telling Deadline in January, “It is connected to this universe, and I don’t think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker, it won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.”
Gunn and Davis will both executive produce the Amanda Waller show, which has Christal Henry (Watchmen) set as writer. The show, if/when it arrives, will stream on HBO Max.
