The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins made a surprise announcement during Thursday’s Wheel of Time: Origins panel at SDCC: Amazon’s adaptation of the beloved book series has been picked up for a third season!
The show was renewed for a second season before the first season had even premiered—a tactic they have now continued with the season three announcement. Amazon has not yet announced the premiere date for season two.
Season two began filming last July, and the first episode, “A Taste of Solitude,” borrows a chapter title from the sixth Wheel of Time book, Lords of Chaos. Filming wrapped at the end of April/early May. Here’s a new behind the scenes sneak peek at the next season, also revealed during the panel.
At the end of season one [spoilers if you haven’t yet watched!], Trollocs attacked Fal Dara, and were fended off by a group of Aes Sedai and women channelers that included Egwene and Nynaeve, who was badly hurt until Egwene healed her. Padan Fain was revealed as a Darkfriend, while Rand Al’Thor met the Dark One at the Eye of the World (or so he believes) and the Dark One took Moiraine’s ability to channel. The friends were all divided: Rand told Moiraine to tell everyone else he died, and Mat had already stayed behind when the group went to Fal Dara.
And on a distant shore, a fleet approached.
Where will we go from there? We’ve rounded up everything we know about it so far.
