The Conjuring films, which include The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, are a bedrock for many a horror fan. The fact that those films also grossed more than $2 billion worldwide with minimal budgets also makes them a darling for Warner Bros. Discovery, so it’s no surprise that the corporation is looking for more Conjuring goodness and are backing a television series in this haunted universe.

We don’t have many details about this Conjuring drama series other than that it will “continue the story established in the feature films” and that longtime Conjuring producer Peter Safran (who with James Gunn also oversees all things DC at the company) is on board as executive producer. Conjuring creator James Wan (who also directed the Ocean Master Aquaman films starring Patrick Wilson Jason Momoa) is “in talks” to executive produce as well.

That description teases basically nothing, and I can see an argument either way that the stars of the main films—Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, who play the Warrens (pictured above), a married couple who investigate supernatural phenomena—would be involved in the series. There are also other standout characters from the films, such as the creepily haunted doll, Annabelle, who might be an attractive choice given that other terrorizing dolls like Chucky and M3GAN are hot right now.

Whatever direction the series goes, there are sure to be plenty of Conjuring fans more than ready to watch when it finally haunts its way onto television screens everywhere.

No news yet on casting, release date or anything really, but it’s nice to know that such a project is in the works at Max (formerly known as HBO Max)! And if you’re looking for your next Conjuring fix, The Nun 2 is coming out September 8, 2023.
