From Cixin Liu, the Hugo award-winning author of The Three Body Problem, comes a new standalone science fiction masterpiece. We’re excited to share the cover for Supernova Era, publishing October 2019 with Tor Books!
Eight light years away, a star has died, creating a supernova event that showers Earth in deadly levels of radiation. Within a year, everyone over the age of thirteen will die.
And so the countdown begins. Parents apprentice their children and try to pass on the knowledge they’ll need to keep the world running.
But the last generation may not want to carry the legacy of their parents’ world. And though they imagine a better, brighter world, they may bring about a future so dark humanity won’t survive.

Supernova Era
Uhm, excuse me? What star? Sirus A? I am already seeing extremely major “suspension of disbelief” issues with this book.
Also, radiation does not work that way.
What if the radiation is 13 light-years away and they have to CRISPR all the babies to be rad proof? I’m sure our author has a reason.
The Three Body Problem and Ball Lightning both depend on totally implausible science. I enjoyed the first for its insight into Chinese society, but I’m not tempted by this one.
I can believe an attempt by thirteen years old to make a better world would be disastrous. But consider the trauma of knowing every adult in your life, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, your favorite teacher, your softball coach, your scout leader, are ALL going to die and leave you all alone?
It’s easy to be critical while forgetting the term ‘science fiction’ implies that the book is not factual. Cixin Liu is an excellent writer.
