The Wheel of Time cast keeps rolling out! Variety has reported that Peaky Blinders star Daryl McCormack has been cast in an undisclosed role, and will appear in three episodes.
The news comes one week after the official Wheel of Time on Prime Twitter account revealed that Michael McElhatton (aka Roose Bolton on Game of Thrones) will be playing the role of Tam Al’Thor (who is a much better dad, for those unfamiliar with the series).
“The choice isn't always about what you do, son, but why you do it.” Please welcome Michael McElhatton (Tam Al'Thor) to the #WOTonPrime family. pic.twitter.com/TGDnTayT2t

McCormack and McElhatton will, of course, be joining Josh Stradowski as Rand, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin, Barney Harris as Mat, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve, Madeleine Madden as Egwene, Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, and Daniel Henney as al’Lan Mandragoran.
There are a number of notable roles from The Eye of the World yet unannounced, from Thom Merrilin to Loial (or at least the voice and likeness of Loial), to the Trakand Royal Family of Morgase, Elayne, Galad, and Gawyn, to Padan Fain, and Ba’alzamon himself. Since McCormack is signed for three episodes, a spot as Fain or Ba’alzamon seems more likely. Then again, there is much we do not yet know about the structure of The Wheel of Time‘s first Moiraine-centric season!
Watch them in action in the first table-read!
It’s coming together…..!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, what are the chances we can get Helen McRory in on this show (speaking of peaky blinders? That would be so amazing and I dare you all to imagine McRory as a Elaida or, get this, as Lanfear. Imagine an older, mature Lanfear played by this amazing actress and is given actual depth of character instead of a crazy ex-gf that we mostly forget about later in the series
@1 While we are rewriting the characters and their motivation can we change Faile’s entire character and most of Perrin’s arc that involves him trying to get her back? Next I would like to remove all references to to slavery as practiced by the Seanchan and polygamy by the Aiel.
That’s about the right length of time for Thom, but he doesn’t seem right for the role. Probably not enough episodes for Ba’alzemon, but maybe?
I’m guessing Gawyn or Galad.
too young and respectable to be Fain, but maybe they could make him look creepy?
Maybe one of the Whitecloaks?
Personally mbgraft yeah that was a LONG arc and didn’t seem to further the story at all. The rest of it – building cultures. It has a point.
@2 The entire character of Halima should be consigned to the Pit of Dhoom. Maybe Balthamel just doesn’t come back? Or comes back, but doesn’t defecate all over the trans and GNC community?
Narg! Definitely. Narg will be given an extended role and travel along with the gang for three episodes :)
I was thinking maybe Padan Fain based on the episodes. Or who knows, maybe there will be a few episodes worth of Lews Therin flashbacks :)
Ha, when I saw the picture of Tam my first thought was also, ‘man, at least he’s playing a WAY better dad this time!’
I’m calling it:
He’s Elyas.
1. Combine characters of Gawin and Galad into one, removing whole of Gawin serving Elaida and sulking when Egwene became Amerlyn. Have character be inflexible in morality like Galad was, go to Whitecloaks, grudgingly help Elayne and Nynaeve, and then perhaps instead of staying with Perrin go and help Egwene but not became this sulking boy stalking Egwene but instead lead/reform Whitecloaks.
2. @6 and @2 properly reworked those 2 storylines can be made pretty good. I actually find premise of Halima character intriguing. The potential of secret Male Forsaken operating in midst of Ael Sedai and no one suspecting him because he is in body of woman?! Just tweak the storyline to make it more scary and secret spy like, instead of just giving headaches make it a threat of trying to brainwash Egwene, make it less of beating up/molesting of his evil subordinates but leave secret murder mystery in. If we remove Berelain stupid clash with Faile and shorten the story, it’s a good storyline. Season ends with Faile captured and escape before the end next one. Make Perrin more anguished about sacrificing his principals and allying with Seanchan just to free Faile, and make Faile coordinating grand escape with most of prisoners and convincing half of Aiel to join in.
@2 unpopular opinion but I like the slavery culture of the Seanchan and the polygamy of the Aiel BUT make it most current, like I really want it to hit home for the Seanchan that almost the entirety of their power is build on lies to their own people. Also to show the trauma caused by the slavery and have Egwene’s recovery from that trauma be given more of a spotlight, show her growth from it.
As for the polygamy with the Aiel, keep it but make it go both ways, wives can have multiple husbands and vice versa. Needs to be fair
And like many have commented here, regarding Halima (Balthamel reborn) I say keep her! But get a trans person to play her and make it REALISTIC not like some uber horny and impossibly shaped woman. This can also properly address one of the biggest concerns of gender divide in the WOT, the assignment of saidain/saidar based on gender – what happens if your trans? Imagine Halima being able to channel BOTH, holy shit what an awesome baddie that would be
Galad or Gawyn is my guess. A young and pretty Baalzamon would be interesting, though.
He’s far too young for Elyas, I think, #10
Could be Logain too. Based on Rafe’s comments about wanting to increase the character’s screen time, it would make sense to have him featured more in the first season.
@12 But Halima is not trans. I don’t understand why people try to make this into some kind of a “problematic representation” issue that needs to “fixed” when it was never about being trans in the first place. It’s literally just the Dark One putting a notorious womanizer and a lecher into a woman’s body either because he thinks it’s funny or as a punishment. There’s not anything about dysphoria either, Halima pretty much instantly just rolls with it. Making Halima trans would be missing the entire point and it’s frankly quite offensive to compare trans people to someone being messed with by the literal devil for shits and giggles.
@15
thankyou.gif
Everything you said. Halima is literally a perverted man’s soul stapled to a woman’s body because the personification of evil thought the idea was funny. That’s not subtext. That’s text.
