The show Peacemaker, a spin-off of the eponymous character played by John Cena in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, is coming at us in the new year. For those who haven’t seen the film, Christopher Smith/Peacemaker is… not the most ethical guy but justifies everything he does as protecting America.
Naturally, the series is a comedy.
You can see some of this comedy in action in a short clip posted on the show’s Twitter account. In it, we see Peacemaker—still in the hospital but fully recovered—have a nice back-and-forth with actor Rizwan Manji (The Magicians, Schitt’s Creek), a janitor named Jamil who has kind of but not really befriended Peacemaker as the superhero recovered from his wounds.

“I made a vow to have peace, no matter how many people I have to kill to get it.” That pretty much sums up Peacemaker in a nutshell! The clip also strongly suggests that those who are a fan of Gunn’s work—the filmmaker has recently directed both Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as The Suicide Squad—will find Peacemaker to be equally entertaining.
I, for one, really enjoyed the banter between Manji and Cena, something we’ll no doubt see more of on the show since Manji is a recurring character in the show’s eight episodes. Whether Aquaman makes an appearance, however, remains to be seen, though I’d have no complaints if we see Momoa’s Aquaman take on Cena’s character in a way that causes violent, darkly humorous repercussions.
Peacemaker is set to premiere on HBO Max on January 13, 2022.
