Star Trek Discovery, season 5 trailer, Michael

New York Comic Con went all out in its previews of Star Trek shows this Saturday, giving us trailers for the next crop of Prodigy episodes, as well as the next season Discovery and final season of Picard. Get ready to see all your favorite TNG characters, the actual non-holographic Janeway, and some very exciting new guest stars.

Yes, folks, that was a split-second shot of Callum Keith Rennie that you saw in the Discovery trailer, who you probably recognize from Battlestar Galactica, X-Files, Umbrella Academy, and approximately eight thousand other things. (The most important one is Due South, but I digress.) Outside of that, it’s nice to know the David Cronenberg is still available to needle the Disco crew into doing what they do best, which is generally get in there and mess around with the universe.

And they were not done! We got our next peak at Prodigy, which will be premiering later this month with its latest batch of episodes. This half-season is going to give us real Kathryn Janeway, who is out to find the Protostar crew and retrieve their ship for Starfleet… which makes holographic Janeway understandably nervous.

And as if that weren’t enough, we got our first long look at the final season of Picard, in which we learn that poor Jean-Luc is going to respond to a distress call from Beverly, and also that Worf is a pacifist now, sorry, this has maybe killed me… I love that for him so much. He deserves this, you keep your mouth shut, Will.

For those who hadn’t place their character roulette bets yet, Brent Spiner is indeed returning to play Lore. Which was my guess, given that we already said goodbye to Data and had Noonian’s ancestors and progeny all over the series. Lore is the final piece of the Data-puzzle, so to speak. Here’s hoping the storyline is worthy of him, given that Lore is a character who’s never quite gotten the complexity of attention he was due.

WAIT, HOLODECK MORIARTY??!

Star Trek: Prodigy premieres October 27th, Star Trek: Picard returns on Febuary 16th, and Star Trek: Discovery will return sometime in 2023.
