Russian Doll proved that Natasha Lyonne can do anything, including solve the mysteries of time, space, and trauma. Now she’s teamed up with Rian Johnson (Knives Out) to untangle a new string of mysteries. This should be cinematic magic! But somehow, the new trailer for Poker Face is weirdly flat.

Still, at least the show’s cast sparkles. The guest stars—murderers and victims both—include Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adrien Brody, Lyonne’s Russian Doll costar Chloë Sevigny, Hong Chau, Jameela Jamil, Ron Perlman, Stephanie Hsu, Tim Meadows, Benjamin Bratt, Lil Rel Howery, and Luis Guzmán—who mutters something about “women’s intuition” to Charlie Cale (Lyonne), who can always tell when someone is lying. “No,” she retorts. “It’s not like a tampon commercial, okay? It’s a real thing.”

Peacock’s summary for the series is notably brief: “Poker Face is a 10-episode ‘mystery-of-the-week’ series following Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie, who has an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying. She hits the road with her Plymouth Barracuda and with every stop encounters a new cast of characters and strange crimes she can’t help but solve.”

Johnson (The Last Jedi) is the series creator, writer, director, and executive producer; how he found time to make a whole TV show in between Knives Out movies is anyone’s guess.

Poker Face makes its debut on Peacock with four episodes on January 6; the rest of the season will stream weekly.
