The indie film The Becomers made the rounds at festivals last year to critical praise. It’s set to come to theaters later this summer, and the trailer for the film hints that the movie about two alien lovers who come to Earth, invade human bodies, and wreak havoc to find each other, is a weird one.
The movie is described as “a gender-fluid sci-fi rom-com with a heart of gold,” and the reviews suggest that things get kinda gross, too.
Here’s the official logline:
The movie, which had a very modest budget, comes from Zach Clark, who said that part of the movie was inspired by his love of Star Trek: The Original Series as well as the pandemic-laden events of the early 2020s. It stars Molly Plunk (Little Sister, See You Next Tuesday), Mike Lopez (May December), Keith Kelly, Isabel Alamin, and Frank V. Ross (Drinking Buddies), with narration by Russell Mael, lead singer of the renowned musical duo Sparks.
Did I mention it looks weird? But in an intriguing way?
The film will open in New York on August 23, 2024, at Cinema Village, in Los Angeles on August 30 at Lumiere Music Hall, and in Chicago on September 13 at Music Box Theatre.
