In a move that should surprise no one, Amazon wants a sequel to its big blockbuster hit, The Tomorrow War, according to Deadline.

If it’s not called The 2morrow War, what will be the point?

The Tomorrow War debuted over the July 4th weekend on Amazon Prime after a couple of COVID-induced delays, and while it hasn’t earned stellar ratings from critics, Amazon has been trumpeting it as a smash hit, breaking Prime Video records with 2.41 million household viewers (by comparison, it seems to have done better than HBO Max’s Justice League: The Snyder Cut).

The film follows an Army veteran named Dan Forester, who—as we see in the first couple of trailers—is as surprised as the rest of the world when time travelers jump into the past to warn everyone that they’re about to experience a massive alien invasion in the future, and that people from our present need to come help if humanity is going to survive. The film is directed by Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) and stars Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, and J.K. Simmons.

That seems to have been worth the cost for Amazon: it paid Paramount Pictures $200 million for the project after the studio pulled it from its December 2020 release date for a then-unspecified 2021 date. Now it wants to bring everyone back for another outing. Deadline reports that Amazon Studios and Skydance are currently discussing a sequel film, with the intent to bring back McKay, Zach Dean (who wrote the film), and the film’s main cast.

There’s no word on what exactly a sequel would look like, but c’mon, you don’t mess with that formula: more time travel, more aliens, and bigger action scenes.
