Back in May, AMC announced that it had picked up a new moon-based drama from Peter Ocko (Lodge 49) called Moonhaven, about a woman who finds herself stranded on a lunar colony and has to unravel a conspiracy concerning the colony’s artificial intelligence system.
Now, casting is underway for the project, signaling the production isn’t too far behind.
AMC greenlit the show for a six episode season, which will follow a cargo pilot and smuggler named Bella Sway, who finds herself stuck in Moonhaven, a utopian community that’s trying to devise some solutions to Earth’s more troubling problems. While there, she learns of a plot to destroy the colony’s artificial intelligence and its work, and has to team up with a detective to try and foil it.
Casting news has trickled out over the last couple of weeks: Lord of the Rings / Lost actor Dominic Monaghan will play Paul Serno, the detective who allies himself with Bella in the effort to save Moonhaven. Ayelet Zurer (Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, Man of Steel, Daredevil) will play Maite Voss, one of Moonhaven’s leaders. She’s described as someone who’s trusted by the colony’s citizens, and that despite a troubled past, she “embodies the lunar mission to save humanity from self-destruction.”
Finally, word broke today that Emma McDonald (The Picture of Dorian Gray, pictured above, Get Luke Lowe) will play Bella, who’s described as a “rogue Han Solo-esque character, is also a veteran of the Tremendous Warm” who discovers that “she has deeper ties to the place than she first thought.”
There’s no word on when the series will debut, but the fact that the show’s lead characters are now cast signals that production is likely set to begin soon.
