Dave Palumbo has been a fan of comic books and science fiction ever since he can remember. Growing up, he loved to draw monsters and superheroes and was fortunate enough to have parents who supported and encouraged him. Dave was life-drawing as early as 12 years old, and in 2000 he began to study painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. The instruction at PAFA was designed mainly with gallery work in mind and didn't offer an illustration program, but it taught Dave a great deal of the fundamentals in representational painting. He started showing at a gallery in Philly while still in school, and that was his main focus for the next two years. The fine art road was enjoyable, but Dave felt that there were other directions that he wanted to push and, in 2005, he started developing an illustration portfolio on the side. Since then, science fiction and fantasy illustration has become the primary focus of Dave's career, though he still makes time when he can for side projects and gallery shows.
