Romantasy is so hot right now. So sizzling, in fact, that there’s a reality show in the works from Jennifer L Armentrout (pictured above), the author of numerous novels including the steamingly popular Blood and Ash series.

According to Deadline, the proposed reality television show is called The Key and “mixes a challenge competition with romance” that’s set “in the world of fantasy storytelling,” whatever that means.

Deadline continued: “The format sees fifteen contestants inhabit a [fantasy-themed?] village where they’ll live and compete in immersive, themed challenges for priceless keys. The keys are used to buy luxuries, woo potential romantic partners and build alliances, all in a bid to unlock a lifechanging fortune.”

So a crossover of The Bachelor with Survivor, maybe? I dunno.

“To create a show like The Key in which real people live out their own adventures in the Romantasy world that I love is very exciting,” Armentrout said in a statement. “I am looking forward to taking this next step into storytelling that blurs the lines between fiction and reality.”

The project is backed by the disturbingly named Panopticon Media, and will be pitched for pickup next month by Mothership Media Consultancy, which is also a totally normal, non-threatening name for a company.

“Jennifer has employed her legendary world-building and storytelling skills to craft an extraordinary reality format that combines romance, fantasy and adventure in a world we have never seen before in reality TV,” Hugh Wright, President at Panopticon said in the same statement. “The Key is pure escapist wish fulfillment that is sure to captivate her millions of fans and viewers around the world.”

The project is still in its early days, so there’s no news yet on if/when it will make its way to a TV screen near you. icon-paragraph-end
