Author Charles Coleman Finlay is taking over as the ninth editor of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Locus Magazine reports. Since 1949, the bimonthly F&SF has published short fiction from esteemed writers including Ray Bradbury and Ursula K. Le Guin; humor cartoons and pieces; and commentary on SFF books, films, and science.
Finlay already has a history with F&SF, having guest-edited an issue in 2014; it was also the first magazine to publish his short fiction. As of the March-April 2015 issue, he will take over from Gordon Van Gelder, who will remain the publisher of F&SF after acquiring the magazine in 2001.
Finlay’s first act as the incoming editor was to announce on Twitter today that going forward, F&SF would prefer electronic submissions:
This means that electronic subs are going to be preferred. The online form will stay open after January 15.

Time to hit send…
I keep reading that as “Charles Coleman finally…”
Does anybody know why Mr. Van Gelder stepped down as an editor?
Congratulations, Charlie! We still miss you over on the Bujold list, but are very proud of all your successes!
