Good news for possession fans: A24 has greenlit a sequel to the horror film Talk to Me, from directors Danny and Michael Philippou.
Following in the footsteps of such seminal classic sequels as 2 Fast 2 Furious, the film will reportedly be titled Talk 2 Me.
The sequel is written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, two of the writers on the first film, which is about teenagers who discover they can communicate with spirits via a nasty embalmed severed hand. Communication becomes possession, naturally; and poor Mia (Sophia Wilde) wants to talk to her dead mom. It doesn’t go so well.
It seems as if there may actually be two more films (at least) in this series, as the brothers Philippou have also shot an entire prequel to Talk to Me, which they said focuses on the character Duckett (Sunny Johnson), who appears in the opening sequence. “We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It’s told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that,” Danny Philippou told The Hollywood Reporter.
In the same interview, he said, “But also while writing the first film, you can’t help but write scenes for a second film. So there’s so many scenes. The mythology was so thick, and if A24 gave us the opportunity, we wouldn’t be able to resist. I feel like we’d jump at it.”
And now they’ve gotten their chance to jump. No release date has been announced for Talk 2 Me.
