The Return of the Living Dead, the 1985 horror comedy film involving zombies who eat people’s brains (the first zombie movie to feature that, in fact) is getting a new installment in the franchise from writer-director Steve Wolsh (Fog City, Mush).
At Los Angeles Comic Con last weekend (via The Hollywood Reporter), Wolsh and newly announced cast members Devon Sawa (pictured above in Chucky, Final Destination), Casimere “Cash” Jollette (Tiny Pretty Things), Kynlee Heiman (The Best Christmas Pageant Ever), and Alexander Ward (Westworld, American Horror Story, Annabelle Comes Home) took part in a panel to share news on their roles and where things are in production.
The upcoming Return of the Living Dead is not a reboot, but is set to take place in December 1985, 18 months after the original film, in a small Pennsylvania town. Sawa will star as Isaac Horton, while Jollette and Heiman play Delilah and Sophia Horton, respectively. Ward, who has played a slew of villains and monsters in his career, will take on the role of the gooey zombie, Tarman.
The movie will be the sixth in the franchise, and has already started shooting, with additional filming expected to take place in Massachusetts once there’s some snow on the ground.
Los Angeles Comic Con guests saw a new teaser that wasn’t publicly released, but there’s also a teaser out for the film from a few months ago, which features everyone’s favorite gooey zombie, Tarman, dragging a Christmas tree through a cemetery. (Note: while this teaser boasts a December 2025 release, the movie has been delayed and won’t come out until sometime next year.)
