Doom Patrol has always been one of Warner Bros.’ more zany DC adaptations, following a misfit team of superheroes and the adventures that they get dragged into. The series is coming back for its third season, and Warner Bros. just released a first teaser, along with a date for its debut on HBO Max.
The series was part of a block of original, live-action programming that Warner Bros. and DC Comics put together for its streaming service DC Universe. The studio wound down that service, transitioned it to comics-only, and moved its live action projects to HBO Max (and in the case of Stargirl, The CW).
The team’s members have changed over the years in the comics, but the show’s roster includes Jane (Diane Guerrero), Rita Farr (April Bowlby), Vic Stone (Joivan Wade), Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer and Matthew Zuk), and Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser and Riley Shanahan).
The first season of the series debuted back in 2019, and followed the team as they worked to rescue their benefactor, the Chief (Timothy Dalton), after he was captured by a supervillain called Mr. Nobody (Alan Tudyk). Season two saw the team dealing with Chief’s daughter Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Monterey), who accidentally summoned an entity called Candlemaker into their world.
That season led up to a tragic battle between the team and Candlemaker, and from the looks of this teaser, they’re in for a strange time. Along the way, they’ll have to contend with the arrival of a time traveler named Madam Rouge (Michelle Gomez).
The season will premiere on HBO Max on September 23rd, following the debut of the service’s other live action project, Titans, which is returning for its third season on August 12th.
