It’s been two years since Amazon MGM Studios picked up the rights to Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing and sequels, which in adaptation terms is like five minutes. And now it’s really, truly happening: Michael B. Jordan, whose company Outlier Society is one of the producers on the show, announced yesterday that Prime Video has ordered Fourth Wing to series.
Among Fourth Wing‘s producers are Lisa Joy (Westworld), who will direct the pilot episode; Meredith Averill is the showrunner and writer. Averill co-created Netflix’s Locke and Key and was an executive producer on the second season of Wednesday, so she’s spent time with teenagers and on adaptations.
Prime’s synopsis is brief and a little tangled:
Violet Sorrengail is forced by her mother to enter the brutal world of Basgiath War College. Based on the fantasy adventure from NYT bestselling author Rebecca Yarros, Violet joins hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.
Everyone working on the show seems quite aware of how passionate—and massive—the series’ fanbase is. Entertainment Weekly quotes Lisa Joy as saying, “Our goal is to deliver the series this fandom deserves.” Yarros herself said, “These are the people who understand what a story means to its readers, and are passionate about the book, which is why I trust them completely.”
