There’s been much talk in the past few years about Babylon 5 coming back, with show creator J. Michael Straczynski calling on fans to make their voices heard for a potential reboot. And while a live-action series based in this sci-fi world hasn’t appeared to come to pass, Straczynski has shared that another Babylon 5 project is in the works.

Straczynski shared via Twitter today that an animated Babylon 5 movie is happening! The title and release date will be revealed next week, but he did promise that the feature will be “classic” Babylon 5 and “raucous, heartfelt, nonstop, a ton of fun through time and space & a love letter to the fans.”

Babylon 5 was a groundbreaking show when it aired in the 1990s, and fans have been clamoring for more in the franchise ever since. The potential reboot got shuffled around in the last few years, but this project in partnership with Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment confirms that we’re getting something in the Babylon 5 world sooner rather than later.

The feature was written by Straczynski himself, which bodes well for the production. And according to the Babylon 5 creator in a follow-up tweet, this “brand new original animated movie is already finished and in the can. So it’s 100% real, happening, and coming out very soon.”

Hoping for more Babylon 5 goodness down the road? Straczynski also tweeted that if this feature does well, “there will be more animated movies, maybe on a regular basis—let the world and WB know and crush whatever’s trending #B5AnimatedMovie.”

We’ll get more details on this feature next week, including the title and the release date. It will likely eventually stream on Max, given the partnerships, though that also is not confirmed.
