Longlegs Teaser Trailer Is Full of Vibes… Disturbing, Disturbing Vibes

Maika Monroe in Longlegs trailer

You’ve got the teeth of the hydra upon you. What does that T-Rex lyric have to do with anything? I have no idea! That’s the only description, however, that comes with Neon’s latest teaser trailer for the horror movie, Longlegs.

The one-minute-thirty-second clip is a masterclass on how to convey vibes through a trailer without giving away pretty much anything about the plot. But what does seem to be coming together based on the intentionally opaque marketing campaign is that the film revolves around a series of family murders that take place over decades that (maybe?) all came about by the workings of a single serial killer and/or something supernatural.

We also know that Maika Monroe (It Follows) stars in the film, which was written and directed by Osgood Perkins, whose credits include directing an episode of The Twilight Zone reboot and also helming the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, “The Monkey.”

What this teaser and none of the other marketing so far emphasizes, however, is that Nicolas Cage is in the film in an undisclosed role, though odds are good that he’s playing the depraved serial killer (or supernatural entity?) that’s behind the violent murders teased in this trailer.

Other than that, the details of this film have been decidedly kept under wraps. We may have to wait until the movie hits theaters to understand what Longlegs is all about. But going into a horror movie blind, perhaps, isn’t a terrible thing (though it might be terrifying).

And no matter what other tidbits Neon does or doesn’t throw our way before the movie’s release, we’ll be able to see who Cage is playing for ourselves when the film scares its way into our brains on July 12, 2024. icon-paragraph-end
