The fourth Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is currently in production, and we just got news of who will be playing one of the villains in the movie.
Today, Deadline first reported that Marvin Jones III, who is probably best known for playing Tobias Whale in the CW’s Black Lightning series, will appear in Brand New Day. He’ll be playing the villain Tombstone, who he also voiced in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and will voice again in the upcoming sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Tombstone, also known as Alonzo Thompson “Lonnie” Lincoln, is a New York City crime boss who, in the comics, has a decades-long history with Peter Parker supporter and Daily Bugle staffer Robbie Robertson. The character was created by Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk in 1988, and is portrayed as a large albino African American man with filed teeth.
Jones joins an already packed cast: Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will be making an appearance as well as Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. Michael Mando, who played Scorpion in Spider-Man: Homecoming, will also be in the movie along with Sadie Smith and Liza Colón-Zayas in undisclosed roles.
In addition to starring in Black Lightning, Jones also acted in season two of Paramount+’s Halo, The Equalizer, and All American: Homecoming.
Production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently on a week’s hiatus after Tom Holland received a concussion on set. The film is still set to release in theaters, however, on July 31, 2026.
