No, they haven’t told us who will be playing all of the Endless yet, those terrible teases. But Netflix announced the first round of cast members for the upcoming Sandman adaptation, and there are some very intriguing choices in the mix.
As expected, Tom Sturridge (Sweetbitter) is playing Dream. As previously noted, he certainly has the cheekbones. Vivienne Acheampong (the recent The Witches) takes on the role of Lucienne, head librarian in the Dreaming.

Once again, we’ll get to enjoy hating Game of Thrones‘ Charles Dance: he plays Roderick Burgess, who imprisons Dream for a very long time.
ASIM CHAUDHRY is ABEL & SANJEEV BHASKAR is CAIN, The first victim and the first predator. (4/6) pic.twitter.com/aDeY0iWblf

Asim Chaudhry (Hitmen) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Paddington 2) are Abel and Cain. One repeatedly murders his brother; the other doesn’t stay dead.
Boyd Holbrook (Logan) is the Corinthian, an actual nightmare and a creature with way too many teeth.
And the beguiling GWENDOLINE CHRISTIE is LUCIFER, Ruler of Hell.
More news from The Sandman soon. But for now, sweet dreams, my lovelies. (6/6) pic.twitter.com/0CNC5euPWe

And last but certainly not least, the divine Gwendoline Christie will tower over everyone as Lucifer.
It’s a good start, and some interesting choices in terms of who Netflix is telling us about. Gaiman has said that the first season of the show will cover the first two volumes of the comic, Preludes & Nocturnes and The Doll’s House, and these announcements certainly line up with that statement.
Sandman has begun filming, and Gaiman is constantly dropping little hints on Twitter. The first season is expected to be 11 episodes, but no release date has been announced.
So there are now a few answers to the casting questions. For those who like mysteries, Sandman is huge, and the cast is enormous. And there are many mysteries remaining. pic.twitter.com/9jKmtPfNtH

Gwendoline Christie looks more accurate to comics Lucifer than Tom Ellis. This fascinates me.
Excellent. The cast looks superb and Sturridge looks the part more than I thought would be possible.
Based on the picture in this article, Sturridge looks somewhat like Dream but even more like Neil Gaiman.
One day I will get over Tom Sturridge playing an absolute cad in Far From A Maddening Crowd, but today is not that day.
A plus for whoever chose that headshot of him though, I really appreciate the Neil Gaiman nod.
@3, …And all is right with the world. If there’s ever a biographical film about Gaiman Sturridge should be the one to play him.
I do hope they stick to the comics when it comes to the whole “Dream looks different to people from different cultures” thing though once we get into his older histories.
Honestly I think Charles Dance is contractually obliged to be in any SFF adaption, and they are all the better for it.
