Today, Netflix released some first look photos of season three of Locke & Key and also announced that the third season, coming out later this year, will be the show’s last.
The show adaptation from the comic book run by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez has reportedly done well at Netflix. While the show differs in certain ways from the comics, the series focuses on the Locke children, who find magical keys in their family home that imbue the wielders with special powers.
According to Deadline, adding two additional seasons was always the plan after the success of season one. “Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion,” Cuse and Averill said in a statement. “As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.”
The third season of the show, which will be eight episodes long, is currently in post-production after the cast and crew shot seasons two and three back-to-back in Toronto. Season two debuted on Netflix last October, and the final episodes are expected to premiere on the streaming platform in late 2022.
Netflix also released some first-look images from season three today. Here are a few of them, in addition to the image above:
