The seventh film in the Scream franchise has faced some turmoil lately. Two of the leads from Scream VI—Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega—had left the upcoming film, with director Christopher Landon leaving the project soon after.

The departures left the future of the franchise in limbo, but today we found out (via the actor herself) that Scream‘s original final girl is coming back for Scream VII.

Neve Campbell shared the news via Instagram, announcing that Sidney Prescott is coming back. Campbell declined to take part in Scream VI because of a salary dispute, but it sounds like the powers that be have made her an offer since then that had her agree to return. “I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!” she wrote.

Campbell also revealed that Kevin Williamson, the writer of the original 1997 Scream, is coming back to the franchise as the director of Scream VII.

“It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven,” Williams wrote in an Instagram post of his own. “I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise. I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream franchise.”

No news yet on when the film will go into production, but based on the image of a script in the post that Campbell shared, it looks like the story has already been broken by James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick, with Busick, who also wrote Scream V and Scream VI,  penning the actual script. icon-paragraph-end
