Filmmaker Bong Joon-ho has found his next project after the Parasite won all the Oscars in 2020—and Robert Pattison is in talks to join the production.

According to Deadline, Bong is in talks with Warner Bros. to write and direct an adaptation of the sci-fi novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, which is set to come out on February 15, 2022.

This project is the first Bong has taken on since Parasite, and apparently piqued the filmmaker’s interest when he received a copy of Ashton’s manuscript in late 2021. Bong then went through an extensive interview process where, according to Deadline, “every A-lister in their 30s was chasing the role.” Pattinson won out, making this his next project after The Batman.

Bong will be writing the screenplay of the book, and his version may turn out very different than the source material. The basic premise of the novel, however, focuses on an Expendable clone named Mickey7 who is on a human expedition to colonize an ice world. Mickey7 goes missing on an expedition and another version of himself, Mickey8, is in his place when he makes his way back to camp. Duplicate Expendable clones is a big no-no, and Mickey7 has to keep the eighth Mickey a secret or they’ll both end up dead.

Pattinson will presumably take on the role of Mickey7 (and Mickey8) in the adaptation. Since this project is still in the very early days, there’s no news on when it will go into production, much less make its way to the big screen.
