Sometimes, you wait ages for a show to return—and sometimes you barely have to wait at all. Percy Jackson and the Olympians just wound up its second season (with a cliffhanger) and then turned around and offered a great announcement: Season three will arrive later this year. A brief teaser for the upcoming season appeared in the end credits of season two’s finale. In it, Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) leads Percy (Walker Scobell) onto a school dance floor. (You can watch the clip on Instagram if you missed it.)

The series was renewed for a third season long before the second season aired; Disney+ is clearly confident in its appeal. And casting announcements have been trickling out as well: Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite, Dafne Keen as Artemis, and Saara Chaudry as Zoë Nightshade. Holt McCallany will play the Titan Atlas; David Costabile will be Dr. Thorn; Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie will play Nico and Bianca di Angelo, the children of Hades; and Jesse L. Martin is set to play Annabeth’s dad, Frederick Chase.

The third season will be based on The Titan’s Curse, the third book in Rick Riordan’s series—which, unlike the first two books, has not previously been adapted. Star Scobell told Variety, “I almost feel like there’s less pressure, because I don’t think there’s anything to really compare it to. I thought Logan Lerman had a wonderful performance as Percy Jackson, but now I’m on my own.”

Though the series may not exactly follow the novel, the synopsis for The Titan’s Curse goes like this:

When the goddess Artemis goes missing, she is believed to have been kidnapped. And now it’s up to Percy and his friends to find out what happened. Who is powerful enough to kidnap a goddess? They must find Artemis before the winter solstice, when her influence on the Olympian Council could swing an important vote on the war with the titans. Not only that, but first Percy will have to solve the mystery of a rare monster that Artemis was hunting when she disappeared—a monster rumored to be so powerful it could destroy Olympus forever.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is created by Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg. You can watch the first two seasons on Disney+. icon-paragraph-end
