It is still not entirely clear if Sinners, the upcoming film from writer-director Ryan Coogler (Black Panther), is a vampire movie—but a lot of people seem to be leaping to that conclusion after seeing the first trailer. And to be fair, it certainly looks like a vampire tale: lots of special weapons, a need to close the doors at night, ominous noises and voiceovers about terrible ways to see men die. The visuals suggest vampire, yes, but I certainly wouldn’t put it past Coogler to have something a little different up his sleeve.

Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan, Black Panther‘s Killmonger, as twin brothers who “return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back,” according to the very brief synopsis. It’s being teased as “a new vision of fear.”

This is Coogler’s first movie since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and the first time since Fruitvale Station that he’s working outside of the confines of an existing franchise (he also directed Creed). Along with Jordan (who’s been in all five of Coogler’s films), it stars Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye), Jack O’Connell (Godless), Wunmi Mosaku (Loki), Jayme Lawson (The Batman), Omar Benson Miller (Ballers), and Delroy Lindo (The Good Fight).

Sinners is in theaters March 7, 2025. icon-paragraph-end
