We first found out that Stranger Things and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was working on a Star Wars movie back in 2022. It’s two years later, but now that the aforementioned third Deadpool film is set to come out in mere days, momentum on Levy’s feature that takes place in a galaxy far, far away is picking up.
Today, Deadline confirmed that Levy has brought on his frequent collaborator, Jonathan Tropper, to pen the script. The two worked together on Netflix’s The Adam Project as well as 2014’s This Is Where I Leave You and 2017’s Kodachrome. Tropper also created the Max series Warrior (which is the best show you’ve never seen… check it out) and was showrunner on See, an Apple TV+ series starring Jason Momoa.
We don’t have any details yet on the story for Levy’s Star War, including when in the franchise’s timeline it will take place. The film isn’t the only Star War in the works, either. The next feature that will make its way to the big screen will be The Mandarlorian & Grogu, which is slated to come out on May 22, 2026. Another Rey-centered movie starring Daisey Ridley is also happening and is currently scheduled to come out in December 2026.
Even though details are non-existent for the film, I can’t help but wonder whether Ryan Reynolds, who worked with Levy on The Adam Project and, of course, Deadpool & Wolverine, will once again team with Levy for a Star War. The answer is unknown, but I’d bet a Republic Credit that he’ll show up.
