Not to take away from the excitement of a new Star Trek: Lower Decks trailer—we’ll get to that—but this news is intergalactic. The next season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will have a crossover episode with Star Trek: Lower Decks.
What? WHAT?

It’s not entirely clear how this crossover will work; some reports say that Jack Quaid (Boinler) and Tawny Newsome (Mariner) will appear as themselves, in live action; others say the crossover will be a mix of live action and animation. We just don’t know. (But I can’t stop imagining the puppet episode of Angel, for some reason?) But does it matter? It’s going to be amazing. And we’re going to have to wait forever.
Since the first season of Strange New Worlds just ended, this was the only big news on that Trek front out of the Star Trek San Diego Comic-Con panel. Everything else was vague—if intriguing!—hints at what’s to come for some characters, like that Spock (Ethan Peck) will wrestle more with his human side, and that we’ll see a less experienced side of Kirk (Paul Wesley).
But Lower Decks gets its own (fully animated) moment in the sun with a new trailer that has another flavor of crossover excitement: The gang goes to Deep Space Nine! The show makes fun of DS9‘s famously lengthy opening titles! “Just keep circling.”

The latest teaser for Star Trek: Picard‘s third and final season offered a first look at the whole Next Generation gang back in action: Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Worf (Michael Dorn), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) join Seven (Jeri Ryan), Raffi (Michelle Hurd), and Picard (Patrick Stewart) in the newest look at the show, and they all look so great. Seven is in a Starfleet uniform! Dr. Crusher is not! Geordi and Worf seem to have gotten promotions!
Everyone gets a line, and Picard brings it home: “As long as you and your crew remain steadfast, you are never without hope.”
Brent Spiner is not seen in this teaser, but on the panel, producer Alex Kurtzman said he will be on the show, playing “a new old character.” Another old character will appear: the Enterprise! And Gates McFadden in particular seems pretty excited about what the show has in store for Dr. Crusher.

And here’s one last Picard tidbit to get the theories flowing:
Kurtzman: “We will have a singular villain and won’t get to much into it, but SHE is amazing.” #SDCC

In conclusion, Ethan Peck understood the assignment.
