Star Wars Poe Dameron comic, Phil Noto, Charles Soule

What’s that, you say? You need more Poe Dameron in your life? We all do, of course. And Marvel has heard you sobbing at night, so–

Sorry, kidding. (Maybe.) But prepare to rejoice! Poe Dameron is getting his own comic series, and it’s being billed as Mission: Impossible, with Poe helpfully taking the place of Tom Cruise. Which is the best possible scenario.

The comic is being written by Charles Soule (Star Wars: Lando) with Phil Noto on board for breathtaking art. (He was the artist on Star Wars: Chewbacca and did the cover art for Greg Rucka’s book Before the Awakening. He also draws many gorgeous super people.) The two seem keen to expand Poe’s character, and the universe set up by The Force Awakens. BB-8 will be there! And so will a bunch of other pilots, which will only make for more shenanigans.

Soule points out that Poe is a natural pick for a new story, as he grew up steeped in the lore of the Rebellion–his parents both fought for it, after all: “It’s silly not to explore the idea of a guy who grew up steeped in the Rebellion and the older Republic and all of those myths and legends. If you think about it, he grew up the way we did, hearing all of these stories.”

Noto is already going through Isaac’s filmography to get a feel for the actor and his expressions: “Seeing so much of him on screen, it’s easier in a way to act that part out in my head while I’m drawing: How would Oscar Isaac act in this situation as Poe Dameron?”

The comic is set to hit shelves at some point this spring, so keep a weather eye.
