There’s a new Jedi in town—sort of. The next animated Star Wars program to land on Disney Plus is actually a continuation of a story begun in Star Wars: Visions. “The Ninth Jedi,” from the first Visions volume, introduced Lah Kara, the daughter of a legendary sabersmith who was captured by Jedi hunters. In “The Ninth Jedi” and its sequel, “The Ninth Jedi—Child of Hope,” she searched for her father while facing Sith, Jedi hunters, and other enemies, and while training under Jedi Master Margrave Juro—a search that now continues in The Ninth Jedi, the series.
This all takes place in the far future of the Star Wars timeline, where the Jedi and the Sith have disappeared. And as this trailer makes intriguingly clear, Kara’s father’s lightsabers behave quite differently than those we’re used to: they change color to reflect the wielder’s heart.
The Ninth Jedi is directed by Shunsuke Tada and written by Mitsuyasu Sakai. You can watch it dubbed or subtitled; the original language cast includes Chinatsu Akasaki (Lah Kara), Tetsuo Kanao (Juro), Hiromu Mineta (Ethan), Hinata Tadokoro (Homen), Cho (Gramps), Shinichiro Miki (Lah Zhima), and Akio Otsuka (The Narrator). In the English dubbed version, the cast features Kimiko Glenn (Lah Kara), Andrew Kishino (Juro), Masi Oka (Ethan), Patrick Seitz (Homen), JP Karliak (Gramps), Simu Liu (Lah Zhima), Neil Kaplan (The Narrator), Feodor Chin (Gennoh), Young Mazino (Nawaam), Chase Sui Wonders (Tafflah), and Keone Young (Kwana).
Kara’s quest continues when Star Wars: Visions Presents—The Ninth Jedi premieres on Disney+ and Hulu on August 5th..
