There’s a new Exorcist movie coming our way titled The Exorcist: Believer. And while we’ll have to wait until October to see it, we got a trailer for it today that gives us not one, but two girls who become possessed by demonic forces. It also features the return of someone from the first Exorcist film in what looks like a non-trivial role.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own.
But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.
That’s right, Chris MacNeil, the mother of the possessed Regan in the first Exorcist film that premiered fifty years ago(!) is back and played once again by Ellen Burstyn. The movie also stars Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, and Norbert Leo Butz.
The movie is a Blumhouse production and is helmed by David Gordon Green, the director behind the recent Halloween trilogy. This is apparently the first movie in a new trilogy, and it will scare its way into a theater near you on Friday October 13, 2023.
