Way back, in 1997, there was a little movie called Face/Off. Starring Nick Cage and John Travolta as a terrorist and FBI agent (respectively) who swap faces, it gave us two meme-worthy performances that no other body-switcheroo movie since has come close to matching.
That is, until Jumanji: The Next Level, which places Danny DeVito in the body of the Rock.
Released on Monday, the first Jumanji: The Next Level trailer quickly sets up its premise—a lonely Spencer has gotten himself sucked back into the game—before unleashing its truly unhinged identity-swapping goodness. When Spencer’s friends head into Jumanji to bring him back, his grandpa Eddie (DeVito) and friend/frenemy Milo Walker (Danny Glover) wind up on the rescue team as well. Eddie winds up playing as Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Spencer’s former avatar, with Milo as Franklin “Mouse” Finbar (Kevin Hart). The rest of the trailer has to be seen to be believed, but let’s just say that Dwayne Johnson does one terrifyingly accurate Danny DeVito impression.
Jumanji: The Next Level will arrive in theaters on Christmas.
Wow, I didn’t even know they filmed the sequel already. The first one was a fun movie (watched it on a plane and was cracking up a little too loudly, judging by the looks my wife was giving me) and this one looks just as fun.
I enjoyed the first one, and this looks like it might be even better. But I’m probably looking forward more to the press tour and all the interviews – Kevin Hart is the best storyteller, and him together with The Rock are hilarious in interviews.
I never saw the 1st one…my fault. But I will! Looking forward to seeing the sequel now for sure! Love The Rock! He’s so handsomely YUM!
Okay, definitely matching this for The Rock acting like an old Danny Devito for a whole movie!
Oh So looking forward to this. I loved the first one – the reboot that is.
Seriously looks even better than the first! Oh I am soooo up for this!
new jumanji movie, jack Black, i’ll pass
@6 – I get the dislike for Jack Black, but he was superlative playing a teenaged girl in the first movie, and it looks like he’s pretty hilarious as Fridge in this one. Highly recommend giving it a chance, the first movie had me in stitches throughout!
