“I never asked for this,” Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) tells President Snow in the new trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2. “I just wanted to save my sister, and keep Peeta alive.” We all know that the Peeta mention was just an afterthought—poor boy can’t help but trigger every Games trap in his stumblings—because the real relationship at the core of the Hunger Games trilogy isn’t Team Peeta or Team Gale, but Team Everdeen. Everything Katniss has done, from her blurted-out “I volunteer as tribute!” to storming the Capitol, was for her little sister Primrose.
Don’t watch this trailer unless you want to be hit with all the feels as you see the entire history (that is, clips from the past three movies) of Katniss and Prim: cute little moments before the first Reaping, then their interactions turned graver as Katniss becomes the symbol of the rebellion and Prim joins the fight in her own way. And considering what readers know of Mockingjay… no spoilers, but this is really cruel, Lionsgate.

“just an afterthought—poor boy can’t help but trigger every Games trap in his stumblings—”
Does every Hunger Games article have to include such nonsense? Did any of the authors actually watch the films or read the books?
Or is making fun of Peeta because he does not act like Schwarzenegger or Christian Bale’s Batman just a cliche all online writers are too much in love? Peeta has saved Katniss just as many times as she has him, and is an incredibly brave character. But oh, how dare he be smart, sensitive and nice, like art and baking, and not act like every macho stereotype out there, angrily brooding and cracking a cynical joke before ripping his shirt off and killing 20 Tributes in 2 minutes?
This really doesn’t say anything good about our culture’s attitude to gender roles. The “Toxic Masculinity” trope comes to mind. Ironically, one of the things that The Hunger Games series so wonderfully deconstructs. But trust the media to always miss the point.
@1: I have to agree with you. Always bashing on Peeta for not being an outdoors expert like Katniss is wrong.
And while the Stubby is right in saying the real relationship was Katniss and her sister, other words or phrases could be used.
Even Katniss knows Peeta’s strengths. They are words and working the crowds. He’s a much nicer and better person than Katniss and Gale. Sometimes I think this is lost in the movies because Liam Hemsworth as Gale is just so beautiful.
Josh Hutcherson as Peeta is really great casting – he is the perfect ‘nice guy’. But he gets overlooked too often.
I wonder if they will include the lamb stew can in the movie.
Peeta has had his head all rearranged, is mad at Katniss – but still offers her a favorite stew when he finds it. That was one of the sweetest things ever.
