There may have been a long wait between seasons three and four of Netflix’s The Dragon Prince, but they’ve wasted no time with season five. The new season—which continues the “Mystery of Aaravos” story arc—arrives late next month, just eight months after the flawed season four. A race is on to find Aaravos, the Startouch Elf who just happens to be responsible for “more pain, death, and suffering than anyone else in history.” And much depends on who gets to him first.

While Claudia (Racquel Belmonte) searches for Aaravos (Erik Todd Dellums) because she thinks he can save her father, her former friends seek to stop her: Callum (Jack De Sena), Rayla (Paula Burrows), Ezran (Sasha Rojen), and Soren (Jesse Inocalla), with the help of various allies, are desperately trying find and defeat Aaravos before more horrors can be unleashed. But how do you kill a Startouch Elf, even if you do find him?

The Dragon Prince comes from the animation studio Wonderstorm, and has Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond as co-creators and showrunners. In 2020, after the show’s third season aired, Netflix renewed it for four more seasons, guaranteeing that the full, seven-season story would get to be told.

The nine episodes of season five premiere on Netflix on July 27th.
