We’ve got a new trailer for Edgar Wright’s adaptation of The Running Man, a movie based on the Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) book where a man enters a contest where he has to stay alive for 30 days with the whole world bent on killing him.
That man is Ben Richards, played in this adaptation by Glen Powell. And his impetus for joining the reality show from hell is to get money to help his sick kid get better. That’s so sweet! Ben, however, seems kinda like a jerk but I still hope he wins, because no one deserves to die in a dystopian future where human beings are violently murdered for sport.
Surviving, however, seems like a rip-roaring time. The trailer, set to Electric Light Orchestra’s “Don’t Bring Me Down,” shows Ben surviving with attitude. Yes, several people fire guns at him through doors, walls, and windows, but none seem to touch him because he’s running, man. The film looks boisterous, not a word I’d use to describe the 1987 film adaptation starring Arnold Schwartzenegger.
We also get confirmation via the trailer that the game is unsurprisingly rigged. The producer of the show Dan Killian (Josh Brolin) hammers this home when he says that he just can’t let Ben Richards win because capitalism, I presume. Gotta keep the oligarchy in place!
The Running Man sprints into theaters on November 14, 2025.
