You likely didn’t wake up this morning thinking there needs to be another Shrek-related movie in the world. After a decade, however, we’ve got one in Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, and if the trailer is any indication, it actually looks quite delightful.

For those who need a refresher, Puss in Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas) is the dashing cat that teams up with Mike Myer’s Shrek in the original Shrek films. The cat was cute and adventurous and a crowd-pleaser, so it’s not completely surprising that DreamWorks Animation decided to give him another standalone movie after 2011’s Puss in Boots feature.

Like all of us, however, Puss has gotten older and is close to the end of his nine lives. Here’s DreamWork’s synopsis of the film:

Daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet.

Antonio Banderas returns as the voice of the notorious PiB as he embarks on an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives. But with only one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis: the captivating Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek Pinault).

Based on the trailer, that quest sends him to an old cats’ home where he faces a series of indignities and gets an unwelcome companion in the form of a scrappy pup named Perrito (voiced by What We Do in the ShadowsHarvey Guillén). Puss and Perrito also face several foes including Goldi (voiced by Florence Pugh) and the other members of her Three Bears Crime Family, Jack Horner (John Mulaney), and the terrifying bounty hunter—the big, bad Wolf (Wagner Moura).

If those names aren’t enough for you, the cast also features the voices of Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Samson Kayo (Sliced), Anthony Mendez (Jane the Virgin), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Trolls World Tour).

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish premieres in theaters on December 21st with select viewings on November 26th. Here’s a nifty poster for the film as well, for your viewing enjoyment.
