The sequel to 1996’s Twister, which starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, has finally got its ensemble cast locked down. There are a lot of great names on the cast calling sheet, but noticeably absent is Helen Hunt (and, sadly, Bill Paxton, as he passed away a few years ago).

The Saint of Bright Doors
We don’t have any details on the roles that anyone is playing, but it seems that the two main leads from a large cast are Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick). I’m completely guessing here, but I bet the odds are good these characters are the Paxton and Hunt of the sequel, and there’s also a decent chance that one of them is the child of one of the two leads from the original film.
Other cast members confirmed on the film include Anthony Ramos (In the Heights, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts), as well as Maura Tierney (The Affair), Harry Hadden-Paton (Downton Abbey), Sasha Lane (American Honey), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Nik Dodani (Atypical), David Corenswet (Pearl), Tunde Adebimpe (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Katy O’Brian (The Mandalorian), Brandon Perea (Nope), and Daryl McCormack, who played Aram in Amazon’s The Wheel of Time adaptation.
The sequel, called Twisters, will be directed by Minari filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung, and the plot remains tightly under wraps (though spoiler: it will include at least one tornado, and likely much more than one). Will this movie be as big a blockbuster as the original? Universal and Warner Bros., who are co-financing the endeavor, sure hope so.
We can judge for ourselves when Twisters blows its way into theaters on July 19, 2024.
