Way back in January 2023, we reported that producer and writer Jason Ning (Mrs. Davis, Lucifer, The Expanse) was working on a television adaptation of Wang Dulu’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
It’s now April 2025, and Deadline has confirmed that the project is still a thing, with Ning on board to write and Ron Moore (Outlander, For All Mankind) set to executive produce. The show comes from Sony Pictures Television, and will eventually stream on Prime Video.
Here’s the official logline for the series:
Amidst stunning landscapes and spectacular action, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon follows Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two star-crossed warriors, as they struggle between forbidden love and the pull of modernity—caught between preserving their way of life or embracing a future together.
This is, of course, not the first time Wang Dulu’s work has been adapted for the screen. In 2000, Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning film of the same name came out, starring Michelle Yoeh (pictured above).
No news yet on when Ning’s television adaptation of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will go into production, much less make its way to Prime Video. Here’s to hoping, however, that it will be less than the two-year gap we’ve had so far on news about the series.
