A few months ago, Fiery Film debuted the first image from Hello, Rain, the short film adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor’s Afrofuturist story “Hello, Moto.” The behind-the-scenes photo was a cool first glimpse of scientist witches Rain, Philo, and Coco, but you don’t truly get a sense of them in action until the new character posters, released today.
In Hello, Rain, Keira Hewatch plays scientist and witch Rain, who hopes that her inventions, wigs that allow their wearers to wield influence and power, will help battle corruption. Instead, she watches her friends Coco (Ogee Nelson) and Philo (Tunde Aladese) themselves become corrupted, turning them against Rain as she attempts to make up for what she’s done.
Okorafor tweeted the three posters, full of magical wigs and spells, each with an accompanying quote from the character:
“I am beast. I am lovely. I was born beautiful.” —Philo
“My body is fire. My face is flawless. My hair is power.” —Coco
“There is a witchcraft to science and a science to witchcraft. Both will conspire against you eventually.” —Rain
Hello, Rain, directed by C.J. “Fiery” Obasi, is currently in post-production, with the plan to begin festival and screening tours in early 2018. You can follow the project @HelloRainMovie for updates.
