GET HYPE! Amazon Prime’s Wheel of Time adaptation has begun filming in Prague, and on Thursday, the cast shared their first group photo on Instagram. The picture, which seems to have been taken by Rosamund Pike, unites Moraine, al’Lan, Rand, Mat, Perrin, Nynaeve, and Egwene.
Behind them, you can see some very Two Rivers-y bricks and trees, and some considerably less Two Rivers-y vans.

Let’s put some names to those lovely faces! As previously revealed on #WoTWednesdays, here’s the cast list for our leads:
Moraine: Rosamund Pike
al’Lan Mandragoran: Daniel Henney
Rand al’Thor: Josh Stradowski
Perrin Aybara: Marcus Rutherford
Matrim Cauthon: Barney Harris
Nynaeve al’Meara: Zoë Robins
Egwene al’Vere: Madeleine Madden
You can find some more info on what the actors for the Two Rivers crew have been up to pre-WoT in our previous write-up here. Those who have yet to been cast include Thom Merrilin, Min, Loial, Elayne Trakand and her brothers Gawyn and Galad, Morgase, and an entire flock of villains, including Ba’alzamon, but we’re sure all will be revealed on those #WoTWednesdays, so keep your eyes peeled!
Oh yes, excitement is growing! I’m all in for this :D
I’m skeptical, but I’ll give it a chance…
Remember, don’t try and hold too much hype all at once or you will burn yourself out.
Use a hype’angreal.
This photo makes me really nervous about this cast. Lan’s actor is *smiling* and I just don’t think I can handle it. WHAT ELSE WILL THEY GET WRONG?!!?
I think the cast looks great in this picture. I can see them all as their respective characters. I’m just super skeptical how recognizable the plot will be to the books.
Rand is still the one that just doesn’t gel with me at all, but at the same time, given that they’re standing around in modern clothes and in front of a modern city, that may be expected. I’m excited to see some actual art/costumes.
@@.-@ the funniest part of book 1 was Nynaeve’s (?) Bluescreen when Lan smiles.
Praying this doesn’t go “Shannara” on us.
but who will play Narg?
@@.-@: lol…methinks they might not be in character here.
@8: Oh, man. That Shannara tv show was so bad. Granted, the books aren’t that great either. The WoT series is much better, and we can only hope they stay true to the spirit of the story, if not the actual details.
They ALL look young, VERY young . . . which is right on for the Two Rivers kids, but not so much for Lan and “ageless” Moraine. Yeah, I know, make-up cures everything, and, you know, ACTING. Still . . .
Nice. I can’t wait to see what they look like once they’re in full character mode (after a shave or two and the wardrobe adjustments). The Emond’s Fielders have a great look. Tai’shar Manetheren!
I’m totally disgusted by the casting choices. I will not be watching this so called adaptation although I’ve read the series 3x, and listened to it on Audible 6x over 21years. No thanks, I’ll stick to my mind’s view of it all.
This isn’t a criticism of the cast at all but if Moraine can’t figure out that Rand is the one out of this group that wasn’t born in the Two Rivers then she needs to go back to Aes Sedai school. Or are they going to ignore that plot point on the show? I’m very curious to see who they cast as Tam.
As always, we ask that you keep the tone of the discussion civil and constructive. You can find our full commenting guidelines here.
Daniel Henney will have to get used to not smiling.
nice casual photo, was expecting some official like photo
Isnt Lan described as tall, heavy built with a forbidding aspect?
Well, I have been a fan of WoT since the books first came out! In fact, I LOVE the series so much that I named my daughter after one of the characters, Perrin Aybara since I was reading “The Dragon Reborn” when she arrived. When I was pregnant with her everyone told me that I was going to have a boy, and we’d picked out two names, one for a boy, and one for a girl, but when she came out and was a girl we decided that we could use the name Perrin for a girl too since it’s unisex in nature. She’s now 23 and proud to have such an unusual and original name! I’m sure it will mean more once the WoT TV Series comes out, and she actually sees a visual representation of the character that inspired her name as I’ve always told her where the impetus for her name came from.
Regarding the comments on previous Tor.com posts about how Marcus Rutherford doesn’t match the character of Perrin, that people somehow think that he won’t be a good match for the character that Robert Jordan created in the Wheel of Time universe. I’ve come across some information that might prove helpful in understand the characteristics of blacksmiths for those individuals, and help to educate them on what aspects are actually really required for such a profession. These facts come from actual, real-life blacksmiths so they are eminently qualified to determine what physical aspects are necessary to be successful in the job. In terms of the other cast members, I’m a little mystified by the casting of Lan, since I seem to recall from the novels that he was much older and experienced in the art of war especially, than the rest of them. I actually visualized someone 35-40-ish in age. Of course, make-up and prosthetics can do a lot to age a person, so it may be ok in the end. The actor cast is certainly a beautiful man, but I don’t really think of Lan as pretty, rather more careworn and with a face that’s deeply etched by his life experiences which have been difficult.
Here’s a pic of my daughter, so that you can also have a female Perrin in your head too!! LOL
