There’s something odd in their backyard: Variety reports that Sissy Spacek (Carrie) and Ed O’Neill (Modern Family) will star in an upcoming Amazon series called Lightyears. They’ll play the Yorks, a couple whose backyard holds more than expected—a chamber that’s a passageway to another planet.
Irene and Franklin York have kept their mysterious chamber secret for years, but naturally, someone finds out, and there’s much more to its existence than they ever guessed.
An Oscar winner for Coal Miner’s Daughter, Spacek has been a frequent presence on TV in the last decade, from Big Love through the recent series Castle Rock (pictured above) and Homecoming. O’Neill will always be Married… With Children‘s Al Bundy to some of us, but he also played Jay Pritchett for Modern Family‘s 11-season run, and voiced Mr. Litwak in the two Wreck-It Ralph movies.
Lightyears is the first series written by Holden Miller (a producer on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore). Daniel C. Connolly (a producer on Into the Badlands and Colony) is the showrunner, and both also serve as executive producers along with director Juan José Campanella (Colony, Halt and Catch Fire).
Lightyears will begin filming later this year; no release date has yet been announced.
