After a long wait and a whole host of delays, Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop is almost here. During the streamer’s Geeked Week promo, they revealed two key details: One, it’s coming this fall. And two, original series composer Yoko Kanno is on board.

The live-action version of the beloved anime about interstellar bounty hunters was originally announced in 2017. Netflix ordered ten episodes in late 2018, and production began in 2019 in New Zealand. But injuries—and the pandemic—slowed the process, and the first season only wrapped filming in March of this year.

The series—created by André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner—stars John Cho as Spike, Daniela Pineda as Faye Valentine, and Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black. The three actors appear in the cute little video Netflix released to tease us:

(There’s also a ridiculously cute video on YouTube that’s mostly shot from a certain corgi’s eye-view.)

The original, award-winning Cowboy Bebop (pictured above) was created in the late ’90s and was a genre-crossing, hugely influential and popular series directed by Shinichiro Watanabe. Two directors share that role for the live-action version: Alex Garcia Lopez (Daredevil, The Witcher) and Michael Katleman (Primeval, Zoo).

There’s no trailer, and no specific release date, but any news is good news! And now we know the score will be on point.
