Happy Picard Day! Time to make the captain uncomfortable by surrounding him with children. Luckily for the rest of us, the festivities also include a new teaser for the second season of Star Trek: Picard.
While the first teaser was just a very overt hint about the return of Q, this one wastes no time in bringing John de Lancie into the picture. “Welcome, my friend, to the very end of the road not taken.”
As Picard said in the previous teaser, the true final frontier is not space, but time—and time appears to be broken. Or, to be more specific, it “has been broken,” which implies someone or something is responsible. Little things are wrong all over the place, but no one reacts to them quite as dramatically as Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), whose expression, when she finds her face bare, is a perfect mirror to what Picard says at the start of the teaser. What the hell is happening here?
Whatever it is, Q’s involved, and Picard is determined to get everyone home again. Is the latest trial set by Q, so that Picard can once again prove humanity’s worthiness? Are we picking up with the promise (or threat) from the end of Star Trek: The Next Generation? Sure seems like it, but sorry to say we’ll have to wait until next year, when Picard returns to Paramount+, to know for sure.
